Engert shines in match at home

HERKIMER, NY- Hosting their second straight opponent this season at East Herkimer Sports Complex on Wednesday (9/15), the Herkimer Generals women’s tennis team hosted Mohawk Valley, losing to the Hawks 6-1.

Herkimer (0-2, 0-2) won their first game of the season in third singles. Sophomore Dani Engert (Ilion, NY) defeated Mohawk’s Nicole Dawson 6-3, 6-3. After Engert, Jordan Mercer (Oneida, NY) was the other General to play well in singles, take six total sets, losing to Stephanie Calhoun in second singles 6-2, 6-4.

As for doubles, Kirin Kubayshi (Chiba, Japan) and Mercer paired in the first flight, while Meghan Whitmoyer (Blossvale, NY) paired with Gui Hua Gan (Shenzhen, China) in the second flight. Both lost their game 8-5.

The Generals will host their third consecutive match this Friday (9/18). Coming to East Herkimer will be SUNY Adirondack. Play is scheduled for 4 p.m.
