Generals fall in straight sets to #6 Hornets

(Maxine Grogan and Dani Engert paired well Wednesday in second doubles).

HERKIMER, NY – Playing in their last home match of the regular season on Wednesday (9/23) at East Herkimer Sports Complex, the Herkimer Generals women’s tennis team lost to the top team in the region, SUNY Broome 9-0.

Herkimer (0-4, 0-3) saw Jordan Mercer (Oneida, NY), Dani Engert (Ilion, NY) and Maxine Grogan (Herkimer, NY) stand out from the pack. Combined in singles they took eight sets. Engert and Grogan both took three, while Mercer took two.

Then in doubles - Engert and Grogan paired well again - coming two sets away from the win, losing to Jill Burns and Maddison Tassey 8-6. As for Mercer, she paired with Kirin Kubayashi (Chiba, Japan) and they lost 8-2.

Herkimer’s next match is Thursday (9/24). They’ll travel to play Hudson Valley for their first away match of the season. The Vikings are 2-2 on the season and will host the Generals at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
