Singles and doubles taken against Hawks
UTICA, NY – Playing in their third consecutive road match in three days, the Herkimer Generals women’s tennis team played well against Mohawk Valley Community College on Monday (10/5), losing 4-2 to the Hawks.
Herkimer (0-8, 0-5) got a spark from sophomore Maxine Grogan (Herkimer, NY) in the third flight. She defeated Nicole Dawson 6-2, 6-0 for her second win in singles this season, both coming in the third flight.
Grogan was unable to keep that momentum going into doubles with Meghan Whitmoyer (Blossvale, NY) – losing 8-6 – but the combination of Jordan Mercer (Oneida, NY) and Kirin Kubayashi (Ciba, Japan) did. Both Mercer and Kubayashi defeated Ella Brutsky and Nicole Dawson 8-5. Both have played well together as of late, going 3-1 in their last four doubles contests.
Herkimer will play their second match of the week on Wednesday (10/7), traveling to Binghamton, NY to face #6 SUNY Broome. The Hornets are undefeated on the season (8-0). Match play is scheduled for 4 p.m.
