Generals win big against MVCC on Diabetes awareness night
Herkimer, N.Y. - The Generals paid a special tribute to Diabetes Awareness last night versus Mohawk Valley CC by wearing blue uniforms and accepting donations to help support more awareness and fund research for the disease.
It wouldn't take long for the two teams to start slugging it out once the first serve was made. Herkimer would strike first by winning the first two sets 25-17 and 25-23. Mohawk Valley would strike back by winning set three 25-23 and forcing a fourth set. The Generals went back and forth with Mohawk Valley in the fourth set and eventually came out to top 25-22.
Outside hitter Kimmie Buckley (Herkimer, NY) played an outstanding match by contributing 6 kills and 14 digs. Buckley's defense helped keep Herkimer in the match which would in turn allow the offense to gain some momentum to score against Mohawk Valley. The Generals would also get help from middle hitter Paige Klock (Herkimer, NY) who tallied 11 kills. Sophomore Alex Jones (Canastota, NY) played well both offensively and defensively. Jones, who sets and hits, solidified Herkimer's voids when needed by scoring 3 kills, 7 digs and 1 assist.
The women's volleyball team will play their next match at home on 10/11 against Northern CCC. First serve is expected at 6 pm.
