Generals drop home match to Timberwolves

(Herkimer gathers the point against SUNY Adirondack Wednesday at home in the varsity gym).

HERKIMER, NY – After evening up their conference record with a win over North Country last week, the Herkimer Generals women’s volleyball team was unable to keep up that momentum against SUNY Adirondack Wednesday (9/30), losing to the Timberwolves 3-0 at home.

The Generals (2-13, 1-2) had their strongest showing in the first and third games, tallying 11 points in each. Helping the General do that in the first game was Mackenzie Holbert (Sauquoit, NY), Brittany Purcell (McGraw, NY), Mary Rose Creedon (Little Falls, NY), Lindsay Therrien (Johnstown, NY) and Zariyah Riggan (Cohoes, NY). Each athlete had multiple kills, but Purcell who tallied two service points, helping the Generals tie the match at 6-6 and 7-7 before it got away when the Timberwoves finished the set on a 13-to-2 run.

As for the third set, Morgan Catania (Johnstown, NY) and Laurice Budd (Liberty, NY) got in the action with Therrien and Holbert to keep the deciding set close until SUNY Adirondack went on a 13-to-2 run to end the match.

Herkimer will go on the road this coming weekend, traveling to Utica, NY for the Mohawk Valley Community College POD Saturday (10/3). The Generals will face Monroe, Finger Lakes and Mohawk Valley Community College, with competition for all teams beginning at 9 a.m.
