Generals snap losing streak with 3-2 win over Vikings
HERKIMER, NY – Coming from down two sets at home on Wednesday (10/7), the Herkimer Generals women’s volleyball team won the final three sets in the varsity gym against rival Hudson Valley for the 3-2 conference win.
Herkimer (3-16, 2-3) looked all but out of it after losing the second set 25-13, salvaging the third set 25-20 to avoid the sweep. Then the team started clicking, beating Hudson Valley by nine (25-16) in the fourth set and five (15-10) in the deciding fifth set.
The Generals helping the comeback were Mackenzie Holbert (Sauquoit, NY), Laurice Budd (Liberty, NY), Mary Rose Creedon (Little Falls, NY), JaNay Mucitelli (Whitesboro, NY), Morgan Catania (Johnstown, NY) and Hilary Hoda (Osaka, Japan). Holbert had one ace, nine kills, three assists and 11 digs; Budd had two aces, nine kills, three digs and one block; Creedon had three aces four assists and three digs; Mucitelli had one ace, four kills and nine digs; Catania had three aces, two kills, 11 assists and two digs; and Hoda had two aces, two kills and nine digs.
The Generals continue their competition against Mountain Valley Conference opponents, this time on the road. Next Wednesday (10/14) Herkimer will travel to play Fulton-Montgomery at 6 p.m. The Raiders are currently 15-6 and ranked 10th in the region.
