HUDSON, NY – The Herkimer Generals baseball team finished their four-game series with Columbia-Greene Sunday, splitting games with the Twins on their home field 10-0 and 5-2.
Herkimer 29-7 (19-3) road their ace Mike DeCarlo (Wynantskill, NY) in a 10-0 game three victory. DeCarlo improved to 6-0 working all five innings of a mercy rule victory allowing one hit and one walk with two strikeouts. DeCarlo now holds a 0.70 ERA through seven starts this season. Herkimer scored runs in every inning but the first behind a 2-for-4 game from Chris Burns III (Endicott, NY) and 2-for-3 game from Taishi Terashima (Hiranai, Aomori, Japan).
In the second game, Columbia-Greene starting pitcher Cameron Overbaugh (Catskill, NY) was outstanding, leading the Twins to a 5-3 victory behind his complete game pitching performance.
Herkimer scored one run in the second but Columbia-Greene scored three runs in the third inning with five straight singles with two outs in the inning to take a 3-1 lead. Herkimer scored a run in the fifth inning but Columbia Greene added two runs in the top of the seventh inning on two infield errors to extend their lead to 5-2. Herkimer left the bases loaded in the second and fifth innings but could not get the key hit to break open the game.
Herkimer is now 20-4 in the east region and will host a playoff game this Saturday (5/10) with an opponent yet to be determined. Herkimer hosts Hudson Valley on Tuesday (5/6), they will travel to Jefferson on Wednesday (5/7) and to Fulton-Montgomery on Thursday (5/8).
