(Herkimer's Adam Nell went 1-for-3 with one RBI in game two against the Cougars Saturday).
HERKIMER, NY – Racking an impressive 36 runs thanks to 28 hits which included seven round trippers, the #3 Herkimer Generals baseball team defeated Clinton Community College 19-1 and 17-0 at home in a Saturday (4/18) doubleheader.
Herkimer (17-3) scored five or more runs in four of their eight innings played in Saturday. As previously mentioned, the home run was a big part of that. Herkimer had five different players homer, three in game one, and two in game two.
Patrick Dorrian (Kingston, NY), Thomas Carrigan (Niskayuna, NY) and John Tandy (Montrose, NY) were the Generals home run hitters in game one, with Carrigan swinging for two and Dorrian and Tandy touching all the pads once. Carrigan finished game one with three RBI thanks to his first home runs as a General. Dorrian had a game-high four RBI and Tandy had a season-high three, combing for 4-for-4 at the plate. Tandy's home run was also his first as a General. Dorrian's home run was his fourth of the season which ranked 12th in the nation.
Christian Malave (Milford, CT) and Chris Rave (Middletown, NY) had Herkimer's home runs in game two. Malave hit two, his first multi home run performance of the season, helping the freshman to a season-high five RBI. Rave his one, his first of the season, helping the sophomore to two runs batted in.
As impressive as the Generals hitting was Saturday, their pitching was just as good, allowing four hits in 10 innings of work. Michael Harrington (Glens Falls, NY) and Joe Nellis (Johnstown, NY) got the starts. Harrington allowed one earned run in four innings of work, accumulating six strike outs. Nellis also went four innings, but didn't allow a single run to score, fanning eight batter in the game.
Kohei Otsuka (Tokyo, Japan) and Nicholas Whalen (Utica, NY) came in relief of both games, Otsuka for Harrington and Whalen for Nellis. Both pitchers threw an inning, and didn't allow a hit.
Up next for Herkimer is Clinton. The Generals will travel to play the Cougars in a doubleheader tomorrow Sunday, April 18th. Game times are 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
