HERKIMER, NY – The wins keep on coming for the Herkimer Generals baseball team, defeating Columbia-Greene Community College 13-1 and 14-2 at home on Saturday (5/2).
Herkimer (33-3, 21-1) had 30 hits in the doubleheader against the Twins. 14 of them were extra base hits. Of the 14, three were home runs. In game one Jake Rouse (Milford, CT) and Christian Malave (Milford, CT) hit rounder trippers, while in game two Matt Lichtman (Smithtown, NY) hit one. It was Rouse's third of the season and Malave's seventh. As for Lichtman, his home run was his second of the season.
Pitching in game one was Michael Harrington (Glens Falls, NY). The sophomore collected his team-leading sixth win, going four strong innings without an earned run. Nicholas Whalen (New Hartford, NY) came in the final inning, allowing one run on three hits in his third appearance of the season.
Brandon Nylin (Hyde Park, NY) got the start in game two. The sophomore allowed two earned runs in four innings for his third win (3-0) before Kohei Otsuka (Tokyo, Japan) came in relief in the final inning, not allowing a hit in his third appearance.
Herkimer will travel to face the Twins Sunday (5/3) in another doubleheader scheduled for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. The Generals will play four of their last six games on the road.
