Lichtman and Terashima join MVP Harrington on All-Tournament Team
LITTLE FALLS, NY – The Herkimer Generals baseball team had pitcher Michael Harrington named as Region III Tournament Most Valuable Player, joining Taishi Terashima and Matt Lichtman as the three Generals to make it to the 2015 All-Tournament Team.
Harrington, a Liberal Arts & Sciences: Generals Studies major at Herkimer College, saved his best pitching performance of the season in an elimination game against Niagara County Community College this past Saturday (5/16). The resident of Glens Falls, NY threw a complete game shutout for the Generals, helping his team advance with a 1-0 victory over the Thunderwolves. Harrington has not allowed an earned run in his last 24 and 1/3 innings pitched.
Terashima, a Liberal Arts & Sciences: General Studies major at Herkimer College, hit .450 (9-for-20) in the five games played at Veterans Memorial Park with six runs scored, two walks and seven runs batted in. Terashima, who is from Hiranai, Japan, scored the go-ahead run in two games against Niagara and Erie, but also had the biggest hit for the Generals in the tournament, doubling to left field in the seventh inning in game one against Erie which tied the game at 8-8, helping Herkimer score seven runs in the inning which gave the team its first lead of the game (9-8), closing the door on the Kats in the final two innings for the win.
Lichtman, an Education: Physical Education major at Herkimer College, didn't put up the numbers other did in the tournament, but hitting eighth in the lineup he's not expected too. The sophomore from Smithtown, NY hit .571 (8-for-14) with five runs scored, five walks, two stolen bases and two runs batted in, but in the field Lichtman tallied six double plays in five games played during the tournament, holding opponents at bay with his ability to make plays defensively.
