Malave hits his way to Green & Gold Award in May

HERKIMER, NY – Herkimer Generals baseball player Christian Malave of Milford, CT was named Green & Gold Male Athlete of the Month for May, helping the program to its fourth consecutive Region 3 Championship game appearance in 2016 with a 7-2 record during their last month of competition.

Malave – a Liberal Arts & Sciences: General Studies major at Herkimer College – hit .353 for the month in 34 at-bats, driving in 14 runs from the sixth spot in the Generals lineup. His average jumped to .500 in the Region 3 Final Four at Veterans Memorial Park, helping his team evade elimination against Onondaga with a 13-5 win over the Lazers. In that game Malave went 3-for-3 at the plate with one home run and a season-high six RBI. The infielder drove in eight runs during the tournament in Little Falls, NY – finishing his career with 17 home runs and 93 runs batted in during two years at Herkimer College

"Christian had a great year to end an outstanding two-year career at Herkimer," said Head Baseball Coach Jason Rathbun. "He was a big-time player and will be difficult to replace. We will miss having him here very much!"
