Herkimer, NY-- Herkimer Baseball hosted Mountain Valley Conference foe Columbia-Greene for a doubleheader yesterday afternoon. In game one the Generals offensive productivity was slow to start as both teams were tied 2-2 at the end of the fourth inning. Herkimer broke open with a fifth inning nine run rally which left Columbia Greene in the dust. Big stick for the Generals came from sophomore #22 Leon Babcock (Bloomfield, CT) who went 3-3, just a home run away from the cycle, with three runs batted in. Herkimer landed on top that first game 12-2, ending it in six innings after scoring the necessary tenth run to invoke the mercy rule. On the mound for the Generals holding the Columbia Greene sticks at bay was sophomore #8 Jonathan Sell (Charlton, NY) who gave up only two runs and threw out five batters.
Game two for the Generals was much more productive from the start. Herkimer took an early 10-1 lead after two innings scoring eight runs in just the second. Freshman #4 Jake Terrill (Bayport, NY) went 2-2 with three RBIs. An offensive thorn in Columbia Greene's side this game was #44 Dylan Klock (St. Johnsville, NY) who went 2-3 with two RBIs, and three stolen bases. The Generals rallied again scoring eight runs in the fourth to extend their lead 19-4 to extend their lead 19-2. Columbia Greene was able to scratch off two more runs in their final at bats but it wasn't enough as the final score was 19-4 after five innings.
The Generals will complete the four game series as they travel to Columbia Greene Thursday April 20th beginning at 2 p.m.
