Caccamise, Farone, Rathbun Earn National Honors

HERKIMER, NY — Second baseman Kyle Caccamise was named NJCAA Division III Defensive Player of the Year. Caccamise had a .980 fielding percentage with 56 putouts, 41 assists, and just two errors for the Generals. "Kyle was like having another coach on the field,"  said head coach Jason Rathbun. "His knowledge of the game and performance was a pleasure to watch over his two years here. I was never worried when the ball was hit his way and we wanted the ball in his hands when a big throw had to be made."

Starting pitcher Greg Farone was named NJCAA Division III Pitcher of the Year. Farone struck out 139 batters across 60 innings pitched and averaged 20.85 K/9; the highest in NJCAA Division III by 3.0. He became the first pitcher in program history to strike out every batter faced, registering 15 strikeouts in a five-inning game on April 24 vs. SUNY Adirondack. "Greg's impact on our program will be remembered forever," said head coach Jason Rathbun. "A two-time All-American and World Series MVP are accomplishments that players dream of. He deserves everything that he has accomplished because of his work ethic and personality are even better than his on-the-field performance."

Herkimer College head coach Jason Rathbun was named American Baseball Coaches Association NJCAA Division III Coach of the Year. The ABCA, the primary organization for amateur baseball, has over 45,000 members from the NCAA Division I level to youth leagues. Rathbun, who was awarded ABCA NJCAA Division III Coach of the Year for the first time, was one of 11 coaches around the country to win a National Coach of the Year award.
