Herkimer Baseball swept Columbia-Greene in a doubleheader conference game on the road.
Game 1: Herkimer 21, Columbia-Greene 2
Shiryu Sato was locked in at the plate in Game 1, collecting three hits and driving in five runs as Herkimer rolled to a 21-2 victory on the road.
Sato got things started early with a two-run double in the first inning, then followed it up with another RBI double in the second and an RBI single in the fourth. His bat helped power a Generals lineup that racked up 13 hits and took advantage of 10 walks.
The offense erupted for five runs in both the second and third innings. Marvin Hill added a triple and an RBI, Hugo Kohnhorst and Mike Schleider each chipped in sacrifice flies, and Dylan Wolfson knocked in two with a single. Herkimer ran wild on the bases, swiping 10 bags, with Jacob Severson and Obiel Sanchez each stealing multiple bases.
Justin Peralta earned the win on the mound, allowing just one run over four innings while striking out three. Caleb Martinek came on in relief to finish things off.
Severson, Hill, and Kohnhorst all posted multi-hit games. Columbia-Greene was led by Gael Garcia, who went 2-for-2, while Garvey Chiarolanzio and Sam Buquet each drove in a run.
Game 2: Herkimer 15, Columbia-Greene 4
In the second game, the Generals once again jumped out fast and never looked back—this time thanks to an eight-run fourth inning that blew the game open.
Zowen Collins provided the big blast with a three-run homer to center. Sato followed with a two-run single, and Hill added two more RBIs with a base hit of his own. That inning came after a four-run first, where Hill and Kohnhorst each hit sacrifice flies, and both Obiel Sanchez and Mike Alcantara knocked in two with singles.
On the mound, Jace VanValkenburg picked up the win, allowing four runs over three and a third innings while striking out five. Jason Jackson was solid in relief, tossing nearly two scoreless innings without giving up a hit.
The Generals tallied 12 hits in the win. Madrid, Alcantara, Sanchez, Hill, and Collins all had two hits apiece, with Hill and Collins each driving in three runs. Herkimer also stayed disciplined at the plate, drawing seven walks.
Columbia-Greene was led by Austin Blessing, who finished 2-for-3, and Choinski, who drove in two runs from the eighth spot in the lineup.
The Generals return home to take on Fulton-Montgomery CC on Tuesday at 2:00 PM.
