Game 1: Herkimer 13, Mohawk Valley 2
The Herkimer Generals Baseball Team stayed hot on Sunday, opening their home doubleheader with a convincing 13-2 win over Mohawk Valley Community College where sophomore Jaden Madrid broke the program's single-season stolen base record with 41.
Herkimer wasted no time grabbing control, striking for three runs in the first inning. Hugo Kohnhorst doubled home two, and Obiel Sanchez followed with an RBI single. The Generals kept pouring it on, with Kohnhorst adding another RBI on a groundout in the second and Zowen Collins knocking in two more with a single to make it 6-0 early.
Shiryu Sato added a run-scoring single in the third, and Marvin Hill capped the day with a towering three-run homer to center in the seventh.
Brendan Rusnack was sharp on the mound, tossing a complete-game seven-inning performance. He allowed just two runs on five hits while striking out nine.
Herkimer pounded out 14 hits in the win, with six different players recording multi-hit games — Severson, Sato, Madrid, Sanchez, Wolfson, and Collins all had two hits apiece. Kohnhorst and Hill each drove in three runs, while the Generals were aggressive on the basepaths, stealing nine bases without committing a single error in the field.
Game 2: Herkimer 10, Mohawk Valley 3
The Generals kept rolling in Game 2, riding a dominant performance from Evan Staroba to a 10-3 victory and the doubleheader sweep.
Staroba was electric on the mound, striking out 11 over five innings while allowing just two hits and three runs. David Denten closed it out with two scoreless innings in relief.
At the plate, Herkimer jumped out early again. Marvin Hill doubled to drive in the first run, and another came across on a wild pitch. In the second, Shiryu Sato knocked an RBI single, and Hill added a sacrifice fly to make it 4-0.
The Generals added more insurance later, with Hill continuing his big day by going 2-for-2 with four RBI in the second game. Sato also stayed hot, collecting another two hits, while Madrid paced the team with two walks. Overall, Herkimer showed patience at the plate, drawing eight walks in the game.
With the sweep, Herkimer improved its win streak to 16 straight games, combining strong pitching, timely hitting, and aggressive baserunning to keep their momentum rolling into the final stretch of the season.
