Game 1: Herkimer 15, Cayuga 0
The Generals opened Tuesday's home doubleheader in dominant fashion, blanking Cayuga Community College 15-0 behind a powerful third inning and a stellar outing from freshman Justin Peralta. Shiryu Sato provided the big swing, crushing a grand slam to center in the third inning to cap a seven-run frame. Sato finished with four RBIs on the day despite just one official at-bat.
Herkimer struck early, as Hugo Kohnhorst doubled home two runs in the first to give the Generals a quick lead. Jaden Madrid followed with an RBI single in the second, and Jacob Severson added another on a groundout.
The third inning was the turning point. Mike Schleider cleared the bases with a three-run double before Sato's grand slam broke it wide open.
On the mound, Peralta was nearly untouchable. The right-hander threw five shutout innings, allowing just one hit while striking out eight.
Herkimer finished with six hits but capitalized on walks and timely contact. Sato, Madrid, Sanchez, Schleider, Collins, and Kohnhorst each recorded a hit. The defense was flawless once again, not committing a single error.
Game 2: Herkimer 8, Cayuga 6
Game 2 was a much tighter affair, but the Generals showed resilience, rallying from a four-run deficit to secure their 18th consecutive win with an 8-6 victory.
Trailing 6-2 in the third inning, Herkimer chipped away and then stormed back in the sixth. Marvin Hill hit a go-ahead home run the game with a two-run blast to left. Moments later, Kohnhorst went back-to-back with a solo home run to give the Generals the lead for good.
Hill was a force at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with a homer and two singles. He and Kohnhorst each tallied three hits, while Sato, Schleider, and Dylan Wolfson all added multiple knocks in the 14-hit effort.
Ryan Cook picked up the win with a clean sixth inning, while Jace VanValkenburg battled through three innings in relief. Starter Jacob Rentz went two innings and kept the game within reach.
Cayuga was led by Laird, who had a big day at the plate with a 3-for-3 performance and four RBIs. Despite their 10-hit outing, Cayuga couldn't hold off the Generals' late surge.
