Bio
Josh Lanza | Head Coach, Esports | 5th Year
Josh Lanza has been immersed in gaming culture since childhood, starting with Donkey Kong Country on the Super Nintendo and later discovering a passion for competitive fighting games through Super Smash Bros Melee. As a student at Herkimer College, he claimed his first tournament win in Smash and became an active member of the campus gaming club.
Now a coach and Academic Support Center Specialist at his alma mater, Lanza helped launch Herkimer’s varsity esports program in Spring 2021.
In their inaugural season, he led the Call of Duty Gunfight team to a national championship. Under his leadership, Herkimer’s esports program has become a consistent contender, with postseason success across multiple titles and national runner-up finishes in League of Legends and Fortnite in Fall 2024.
