No. 6 Herkimer Men's Basketball Dominates Onondaga CC Behind Freeman's 27 Points
The Herkimer Generals men's basketball team delivered a dominant performance on their home court, cruising to an 88-42 victory over Onondaga Community College. With the win, Herkimer improved to 16-3 on the season, showcasing their defensive prowess and offensive firepower.
From the opening tip, the Generals set the tone, outscoring Onondaga 37-14 in the first half. The defense smothered the visitors, forcing tough shots and limiting second-chance opportunities. The Generals continued their relentless pace in the second half, adding 51 points to seal the commanding win.
Freeman Leads the Charge
Freshman Kenny Freeman (Rochester, NY) was unstoppable, dropping 27 points on an efficient 11-of-20 shooting while grabbing 12 rebounds for a double-double. His presence in the paint proved too much for Onondaga to handle. Sophomore Jayson McGhee (New Rochelle, NY) contributed 13 points, knocking down three shots from beyond the arc, while sophomore Jayden Norris (St. Louis, MO) added 12 points. Guard Jessie Kilian (Queens, NY) ran the offense effectively, dishing out a game-high 7 assists to go along with 10 points.
Defensive Dominance
Herkimer's defense was suffocating, holding Onondaga to just 29.4% shooting from the field and a dismal 15.4% from three-point range. The Generals forced 19 turnovers and recorded 18 steals, disrupting Onondaga's offensive flow all game long.
Balanced Team Effort
Every player contributed to the Generals' well-rounded attack. Sophomores Oladele Oladitan (Staten Island, NY) and Nehemiah Yisrael (Brooklyn, NY) controlled the boards with a combined 13 rebounds, while sophomore AJ Burnett (Syracuse, NY) chipped in with 10 points off the bench. Herkimer also dominated the rebounding battle 46-24, leading to second-chance points that kept Onondaga on their heels.
