Herkimer College has named Scott Petrie as the new Head Coach of the Generals men’s lacrosse program, bringing with him decades of coaching experience and a championship pedigree at every level of the game.

Petrie most recently served four seasons as Assistant Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator at Herkimer College, helping guide the Generals while continuing the program’s long-standing tradition of excellence. Prior to returning to Herkimer, Petrie spent 12 years as the Head Coach at Johnstown High School, where he built one of the area’s premier programs. His final two seasons saw the Sir Bills make back-to-back Section II championship game appearances, culminating in an undefeated season and a Section II title in 2021.

Before his time at Johnstown, Petrie coached at Salisbury University, where he was a member of the coaching staff for the program’s 1994 and 1995 National Championship teams. He has also contributed to the development of players throughout the region through his work with Albany Power and FCA Upstate.

As a player, Petrie’s lacrosse journey began at Herkimer College, where he was a member of the Generals’ 1989 National Championship team during his two-year career. He later transferred to Salisbury University, finishing his collegiate playing career with the Seagulls in 1992 and 1993. Petrie was a two time All-American as a Seagull as well Caption.

Known for his passion for player development, offensive and defensive innovation, and commitment to building strong team culture, Petrie now takes the reins of the Generals program with a deep connection to the institution and a lifelong dedication to the sport of lacrosse.
