McEvoy and Nicoletti lead Generals past Jefferson
(Herkimer's Shania McEvoy threw a complete game shutout in game one for the Generals Tuesday).
HERKIMER, NY – Aided by two more solid pitches performances at home, the Herkimer Generals softball team swept Jefferson on Tuesday (4/14), defeating the Cannoneers 6-0 and 12-1.
Allowing a combined three hits in 14 innings of play for the Generals (12-7) were Shania McEvoy (Middleville, NY) and Dana Nicoletti (Syracuse, NY). McEvoy allowed one of the hits, going seven strong innings for her first win of the season (1-2), striking out eight batters. Nicoletti allowed two hits, but that came after the freshman had a perfect game into the sixth and no hitter into the seventh inning. She ended up giving up one run on two hits, but struck out 11 for her fourth win (4-3).
Coming through for the offense in game one was Elyssa LeBaron (Corning, NY) and Hannah Potter (Pulaski, NY). Both freshman had two runs batted in, helping to a five runs first inning. LeBaron finished the game 2-for-3. Potter went 2-for-2.
More Generals got in the act game two with 11 total hits against Jefferson starter Korine Clark. The offense exploded for six runs in the second and five in the seventh with Samantha Elliott (Ontario, Canada), Kayla Bancroft (Fort Ann, NY), Molly Moore (Norwich, NY) and LeBaron acquiring two RBI a piece. Rounding out the attack was Brittany Ormond (New Paltz, NY), Arainna Brone (Rochester, NY) and Shannon McCann (Horseheads, NY). Each had one hit in the game which resulted in a run batted in.
Up next for Herkimer is Columbia-Greene Community College. The Twins are 1-3 in their last four games, scoring a season-high two runs against Fulton-Montgomery on the road. Herkimer on the other hand has now won eight straight games, allowing only three runs total. The doubleheader between the Twins and Generals is scheduled for Thursday (4/16) at 3 and 5 p.m. Herkimer will be the visitor.
