Softball wins 12th straight in sweep of Cougars
(Herkimer Sydney Cimini went 3-for-5 with 3RBI in game one against the Cougars Sunday).
HERKIMER, NY – Collecting 17 doubles, six triples and two home runs on Sunday (4/19) at home, the Herkimer Generals softball team swept Clinton Community College 28-0 and 30-0.
Herkimer (18-7, 6-0) had multiple contributors which helped the team reach their 12th consecutive win of the season, but Elyssa Lebaron (Corning, NY), Hannah Desino (Pitsford, NY) and Samantha Elliott (Ontario, Canada) stood out from the bunch, collecting four or more runs batted in during the doubleheader.
Lebaron had four RBI in game one, going 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and triple. Desino had five RBI in game two, going 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and one home run. Elliott had four RBI in game two, going 3-for-5 with a double.
After those three, four Generals had three runs batted in a game. They were Sydney Cimini (Syracuse, NY), Molly Moore (Norwich, NY), Terra Lawler (Syracuse, NY) and Gabrielle Waterman (Stoneridge, NY).
Accumulating two RBI in a game was Shannon McCann (Horseheads, NY), Jadyn Costello (Kingston, NY), Alexis Capasso (Gloversville, NY), Korey Bunal (Rome, NY) and Arainna Brone (Rochester, NY).
Pitching for Herkimer on Sunday was Amy Hart (St. Johnsville, NY) and Ashley Marshall (Oneida, NY). Both threw complete game shutouts for the victory. Hart allowed two hits, and struck out seven batters, while Marshall allowed three hits and struck out four.
Up next for the Generals is Onondaga on Tuesday, April 21st. Herkimer has already played the No. 9 team in the country this season, defeating them 10-9 and 14-6 on the road. This time Herkimer will host, with a scheduled start of 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. for the doubleheader. The Lazers are 3-3 in their last six games.
