Softball ends Cougars win streak, sweeps another series
BATAVIA, NY – Collecting their eighth doubleheader sweep of the season Saturday (4/25), the Herkimer Generals softball team defeated Genesee Community College 8-2 and 11-0, on the road, ending a five-game win streak for the Cougars and increasing the Generals current win streak to 16.
Herkimer (20-7) has been rolling as of late, and their starting pitching has been a big proponent of it. Dana Nicoletti (Syracuse, NY) and Brittany Ormond (New Paltz, NY) got the starts in both games, collecting their fifth and seventh completes games of the season respectively. Nicoletti went seven innings for the fifth time, allowing two runs on six hits, striking out a season-high 12 Cougars for her fifth straight win. As for Ormond, she only needed five innings to collect her fifth consecutive win and third shutout of the season, allowing two hits in a game for the second time.
Offensively, the Generals looked to Alexis Capasso (Gloversville, NY), Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, NY) and Arainna Brone (Rochester, NY). Capasso went 6-for-6 in the doubleheader with a season-high six runs batted in both games, giving the sophomore 17 RBI this season. Daniels went 3-for-5 with a season-high four RBI in game one, tallying another double and triple, leading the team in triples with six. Brone collected two more runs batted in consecutive games, giving the freshman 10 RBI this season.
Herkimer will finish their week away at Niagara County Community College on Sunday (4/26). The Thunderwolves will play the Generals in a doubleheader at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.
