18th consecutive win earned against Thunderwolves for Softball
SANBORN, NY – Logging two more victories against the Western New York Athletic Conference on Sunday (4/26), the Herkimer Generals softball team swept Niagara County Community College, defeating the Thunderwolves 14-1 and 7-0 for the team's 17th consecutive victory.
Herkimer (22-7) has gone through the Region III in their last 10 games, outscoring opponents 169-to-7. It was no different Sunday as both starters allowed one earned run and the lineup collected 23 hits in the doubleheader.
Starting in game one for the Generals was Amy Hart (St. Johnsville, NY). The freshman got her third win of the season (3-0) - allowing one earned run in five innings pitched - accumulating eight strike outs, just over her average of 7.29 per appearance.
The game two starter was Shania McEvoy (Middleville, NY). McEvoy carried the momentum in game two, tallying her second shutout of the season, collecting her second win (2-2) too. The freshman threw seven innings and allowed four hits.
Leading the offensive attack at the plate against the Thunderwolves was Brittany Ormond (New Paltz, NY). The sophomore drove in a season-high five RBI in the doubleheader, going 4-for-7 at the plate. Ormond collected four RBI in game one and one in game two thanks to two doubles and one triple.
One RBI behind Ormond was Taylor Daniels (Watervliet, NY). After an eight game absence due to injury, the infielder had a season-high four RBI in game one. Helping Daniels to those totals was a home run, her second of the season, which drove in three runs.
Herkimer continues on the road this coming Tuesday (4/28), facing Fulton-Montgomery Community College. The Raiders have lost their last six games, but are 2-2 in the Mountain Valley Conference (MVC). As for the Generals, they are undefeated in the MVC (6-0) and will look to remain that way with their Tuesday doubleheader scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m.
