HERKIMER, NY – Facing their first undefeated opponent of the regular season Thursday (4/30) didn't faze the #2 Herkimer Generals softball team, taking two games at home from #9 Hudson Valley 9-7 and 11-5, giving the Vikings their first two losses of the season in the process.
Herkimer (26-7, 10-0) rode the arms of Dana Nicoletti (Syracuse, NY) and Brittany Ormond (New Paltz, NY) in the doubleheader. Combined both players hadn't lost since returning from their spring trip, staying hot with yet another solid pitching performance. Nicoletti allowed seven runs, four of them earned, in another complete game for the freshman. She also finished with eight strike outs. Ormond allowed five runs – all of them earned – despite the Vikings collecting a season-high 12 hits against the sophomore, going seven innings for the third time in 2015.
Coming through at the plate in the team's 10th consecutive conference win was Karintha Myslivecek (Redfield, NY) and Elyssa LeBaron (Corning, NY) in game one and Jadyn Costello (Kingston, NY) and Arainna Brone (Rochester, NY). Each player collected two runs batted in during their respective game which was a team-high. Myslivecek went 2-for-5 at the plate with one triple, LeBaron went 2-for-4, Costello went 3-for-3 with one double and Brone went 2-for-4.
