Herkimer Softball fell in a road doubleheader Tuesday at Finger Lakes Community College, dropping the opener 21-13 before falling in game two 14-4.
Game 1: Finger Lakes 21, Herkimer 13
It was an offensive slugfest in game one. The Generals put up 13 runs on 9 hits but couldn't keep pace with a red-hot Lakers lineup that scored in every inning.
Yetnelyz Lugo-Mateo led the way for Herkimer with a triple and four RBIs. Kimora Brown and Alexis Broderick each drove in two. Kerrigan Crysler also had a two-RBI day at the plate.
Despite the run support, defensive miscues hurt Herkimer. The Generals committed eight errors, including five by Crysler in the circle. Finger Lakes took advantage, scoring 21 runs on 15 hits and 10 walks.
Crysler took the loss, allowing 14 runs—8 earned—over three innings. Aubrey Lewis pitched in relief.
Game 2: Finger Lakes 14, Herkimer 4
In the nightcap, Herkimer started strong but couldn't overcome an 11-run fourth inning by the Lakers.
Aubrey Lewis homered and knocked in two. Kimora Brown tripled and added an RBI. Lugo-Mateo drove in one more. Herkimer out-hit Finger Lakes 11-9 but left nine runners on base and made three more errors.
Emma Carlton started and took the loss. She allowed 14 runs—just six earned—over 3.2 innings. Lewis finished the game in relief.
Madison Anderson got the win for Finger Lakes in both games.
The Generals drop to 2-8 overall and 1-1 in conference play. They'll look to bounce back in their next matchup against Hudson Valley CC on Thursday. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM.
