Game 1 featured a dramatic finish as Herkimer rallied late and secured the win in the bottom of the seventh inning. With the game tied 6-6, Perry delivered the game-winning hit with a single that brought home the winning run and sent the Generals home victorious.
Herkimer first got on the board in the third inning when Carlton singled to drive in a run. SUNY Niagara answered with a four-run fourth inning, using extra-base hits from Schindler, Kisloski, and Sypherd along with a sacrifice bunt from Herman to take the lead.
The Generals battled back in the fifth inning to even the score. Broderick sparked the rally with a triple before Herkimer capitalized on a SUNY Niagara error to tie the game.
Perry was outstanding in the circle, going the distance while striking out 12 batters. The right-hander allowed seven hits and six runs, though only two were earned, while walking just two.
Offensively, Herkimer pounded out 12 hits. Neville and Perry each collected three hits at the top of the lineup, with Perry finishing 3-for-4 and driving in two runs. Carlton added two hits, while Broderick delivered a key extra-base hit during the comeback.
In Game 2, SUNY Niagara's offense proved too much as the Thunderwolves claimed a 15-1 victory.
SUNY Niagara scored early in the first inning before extending the lead in the second behind a walk by Shingleton and an RBI triple from Manth. The visitors then broke the game open with six runs in the third inning and added five more in the fourth.
Neville drove in Herkimer's lone run of the game, while Roberts and Broderick each recorded two hits for the Generals.
Perry took the loss in the circle after pitching two innings with three strikeouts. SUNY Niagara pitcher Shingleton earned the win after allowing just one run over five innings.
SUNY Niagara totaled 11 hits in the second game, led by Shingleton's three-hit performance. Manth, Schindler, and Shingleton each drove in four runs during the victory.
Herkimer will look to bounce back on Tuesday when the Generals travel to face Hudson Valley Community College.
