Generals Split Doubleheader with Hudson Valley

Hudson Valley took control early in the first game, scoring five runs in the opening inning and never looking back. Bonafede drove in the first run on a groundout before Graham connected on a two-run home run to left field. Pryor later added an RBI double and Sawitzki capped the inning with an RBI single.
The Vikings added another run in the third inning when Sawitzki doubled down the right field line.
Herkimer managed two runs in the loss, with Neville and Roberts each driving in a run. Molter and Broderick recorded hits for the Generals, who also worked four walks at the plate.
Perry provided a strong relief effort, striking out eight batters over four innings while allowing three runs. Ferraro took the loss after Hudson Valley's explosive first inning.
Despite the setback, Herkimer played a clean defensive game without committing an error. Molter led the defense with eight chances in the field.
The Generals responded in a big way in the second game behind a dominant performance from Perry in the circle and a huge offensive outburst in the second inning.
Perry struck out 12 batters and tossed a complete game, allowing three runs on 11 hits while walking three.
Herkimer opened the scoring in the first inning when Neville doubled home a run, but Hudson Valley answered quickly with a two-run homer from Kristel and an RBI single by Kilburn to take a 3-1 lead.
The Generals then exploded for seven runs in the second inning to take control of the game. Roberts started the rally with an RBI single before Neville delivered a two-run double. Kelly added another RBI single, and Powers broke the game open with a bases-clearing triple.
Herkimer finished with 12 hits in the win. Powers drove in three runs, while Ferraro, Kelly, Neville, and Roberts each collected two hits. Roberts also stole three bases as the Generals swiped four total bases in the game.
The defense was flawless behind Perry, with Herkimer once again finishing without an error. Broderick led the way defensively with 13 chances.
Hudson Valley also recorded 11 hits in the contest, led by three-hit performances from Graham and Bonafede.
The Generals return home Thursday for a matchup against SUNY Adirondack.
