McNeil's Dominant Performance Powers Herkimer Past Corning
The Herkimer Women's Basketball team delivered a commanding 72-51 victory over Corning Community College on Sunday, with standout performances and a balanced team effort.
The Generals set the tone early, outscoring Corning 20-10 in the first quarter and carrying that momentum into halftime with a 38-20 lead. Herkimer's defense stifled Corning's offense, while their relentless rebounding and scoring consistency gave them the upper hand throughout the contest.
Sophomore forward Imani McNeil (Colonie, NY) was a force to be reckoned with, leading the team with 29 points and 14 rebounds in just 29 minutes. McNeil shot an impressive 13-for-23 from the field and added 3 steals to her stellar stat line. Her dominance in the paint was complemented by the playmaking of freshman guard Kavashia Archie (Utica, NY), who contributed 16 points, 8 assists, and 9 rebounds while controlling the tempo on both ends of the floor.
Sophomore Sage Geisler (Queens, NY) provided a perimeter threat, scoring 16 points on 4-of-9 shooting from beyond the arc. Sophomores Anderson Eggleston (St. Johnsville, NY) and Sarah Davis (Norwhich, NY) chipped in with 4 and 2 points, respectively, while bringing defensive intensity and key rebounds.
Herkimer's bench added valuable minutes, with sophomores Charity Dygert (Herkimer, NY) and Kerisa Van Olst (Salisbury Center, NY) combining for 6 points and 8 rebounds. The Generals' depth and teamwork were on full display, amassing 51 rebounds and 24 assists as a unit.
Corning struggled to find a rhythm against Herkimer's aggressive defense, shooting 33.9% from the field. The Red Barons' top performer, Cherish Maglio, scored 18 points, while Taylor Evans added 14 points, including three three-pointers.
