Herkimer Women's Basketball came away with an important 66-48 win over Region 21 opponor Northern Essex Community College on Sunday afternoon. The back-end of a weekend trip, the Generals used great defense and established inside play to notch the victory.
Freshman Center Junel Beaubrun (Brooklyn), had a career game, going 9-21 from the floor en route to 21 pts, while also grabbing 21 rebounds and blocking four shots. Herkimer came out shooting from the outside versus Northern Essex compact 2-3 zone, but taking advantage of second-chance opportunities, Herkimer looked to Beaubrun early and often. Herkimer would actually distribute a season high 23 assists in the win, lead by 10 from elite point guard Nevaeh Spencer (Brooklyn), who added 12 pts as well.
Herkimer would only knock down a season-low three three-pointers, but Sophomore Angelina Deitz (Schnectady), would begin to attack the basket to allow for the inside/outside balance. Deitz would end up with 15 points on the day, along with six rebounds.
The Generals currently sit at 3-2 and travel to Rochester to take on Division 2 undefeated Monroe Rochester at 6 p.m. on Wednesday 11/19.
