On Friday, November 21, Herkimer welcomed the #5 team in the country, Jefferson Community College in a rematch of last year's Regional Finals. Herkimer would fall in an epic offensive battle as they were on the short-end of an 85-80 loss to the defending champs in a non-region counting matchup.
Both teams shot incredibly well in the first half, both shooting over 50%. Herkimer would hit 7 three-pointers in the half, but Jefferson would hit 9, as the score was 52-48 at the break. In the third quarter, both teams would struggle from the floor, but Jefferson would get its points from the line, as Herkimer found itself in serious foul trouble. In the quarter, Jefferson would go to the line 14 times, converting on 10, while Herkimer would not go to charity stripe at all.
Despite, Herkimer stayed right on the heels of Jefferson, behind the offensive output from Freshman Center Junel Beaubrun (Brooklyn, NY) 19 pts and Sophomore Guard Angelina Deitz's 17 points, including 5 three-pointers. With four minutes left, Herkimer held on to a 1 point lead, but costly turnovers and the foul trouble put the Generals on their heels.
The loss moved Herkimer to 3-4 on the season, but still remain 2-1 in Region 3. Herkimer has lost three out of its last four games heading into the Thanksgiving holiday, but two were against top five teams in the country and undefeated Division 2 Monroe Rochester. The Generals will return to action with an away game at Division 2 Westchester on December 3 before returning back to Region 3 action.
