Herkimer Battles No. 9 Fulton-Montgomery in Hard-Fought Mountain Valley Rivalry Clash
On Tuesday night, Herkimer Women hosted the #9 team in the country, Fulton Montgomery for the first clash of the Mountain Valley rivals of the 2025-2026 season. Herkimer fought tough, but came out on the short end 72-61 in a matchup between two of the region's top teams.

Fulton Montgomery, who starts three 6-footers, came out hot, starting the game off on a 10-2 run. However, following a timeout, Herkimer rallied, focused on its defense cut the deficit to 10-9 going into the second quarter. Herkimer carried that momentum throughout the 2nd period, led by some big three-pointers from Freshman Ava Nicholson (Brooklyn) and Jordan Bellinger (Oneonta). Herkimer entered halftime with a 28-25 lead.
In the third quarter, Fulton Montgomery took advantage of their large height disparity pounding it inside, as their two sophomore forwards bullied the undersized Generals. The Raiders would go on a double-digit run to carry a six point lead in the final frame.
In the fourth, Fulton Montgomery hit timely shots, and extended their lead to twelve, taking advantage of some foul trouble on Herkimer's part. However, Freshman Point Guard Nevaeh Spencer (Brooklyn), put the Generals on her back, going on a 9-0 run to bring the game within three. Fulton Montgomery would call a timeout and converted on a baseline out of bounds play with a foul to make it a six point game and carry them to victory.
In the game, Spencer led the Generals with 21 points and 12 rebounds and Freshman Molly Rifanburg (Edmeston) added 14 pts and 8 rebounds.
