Generals Pull Away in Second Quarter to Defeat Hudson Valley, 79–64
On Tuesday night, Herkimer Women's Basketball played host to Mountain Valley Conference rival Hudson Valley, where they were able to capture a 79-64 win to move to 9-4 in Region 3 play.

The Generals started off slow, swapping the lead with the Vikings for most of the quarter, but following foul shots from Freshman Ava Nicholson (Brooklyn), Herkimer held a slim lead 18-16. In the 2nd, Herkimer found its energy following hustle and energy from Freshman Taylor Hayes (St. Johnsville), who grabbed 3 offensive rebounds, each leading to a basket, and on a couple of coast to coast layups from Freshman Amiya Carter (Newark, NJ). The Generals were able to win the quarter 20-7 to carry a 15 point lead into halftime.
In the 3rd, Herkimer and Hudson Valley went back and forth, with Herkimer pushing the lead to 20 points before serious foul trouble started to add up for the Generals. They committed nine fouls in the quarter and Hudson Valley converted on seven foul shots to keep the lead around 15 for Herkimer. In the fourth, on the back of Freshman Nevaeh Spencer (Brooklyn, NY), Herkimer held off Hudson Valley to get the win.
All scoring was led by Spencer with 22 who added 8 rebs, 8 steals, and 6 assists, and Carter with 16 pts, 8 reb, 5 steals. Freshman Molly Rifanburg (Edmeston) finished 5-5 from the floor for 12 points, and Nicholson tallied 10 pts and 6 reb.
Herkimer is off until Saturday, where they make the short trip to Utica to take on Mohawk Valley.
