Head Coach: Matt Hazzard

Women's Basketball | 5th season (2025-26)

Matt Hazzard completed his fourth season leading the Herkimer Generals Women’s Basketball program.

Since taking over, Hazzard has guided the Generals to a 59-40 record and steadily raised the program’s profile. The 2024–25 season marked a major milestone as Herkimer reached its first Region III Championship game in over two decades—knocking off No. 1 seed Onondaga CC along the way.

Under Hazzard’s leadership, the Generals have produced seven All-Region selections, including standout two-time honorees Sage Geisler, Kapri Bradshaw, and Jenna Faulkner. His ability to identify talent, build confident players, and prepare athletes for the next level has been a hallmark of his coaching.

Before Herkimer, Hazzard made a name for himself at Cooperstown Central School—his alma mater—where he helped guide the Girls Varsity team to two NYSPHSAA Final Four appearances and a 2015 Class C State Championship. He’s coached three 1st Team All-State players who went on to thrive at the collegiate level.

In addition to basketball, Hazzard has spent time as a varsity baseball assistant, contributing to Cooperstown’s 2019 NYSPHSAA State Finals run. His broad coaching background and involvement with NJCAA events on Herkimer’s campus give him a unique perspective on the demands and opportunities of two-year college athletics.

Off the court, Hazzard is just as committed to the student side of “student-athlete.” He’s an adjunct professor in SUNY Oneonta’s Sport Management program and holds a B.S. from SUNY Cortland and an M.S. from Colorado State University.

Coach Hazzard lives in Cooperstown, NY, with his wife Stephanie and their sons, Paxton and Grayson.
