The Herkimer Generals Men's and Women's Track and field teams competed in its fifth outdoor meet of the season this past weekend at the Cortland Classic, facing off against a highly competitive field that included NCAA Division I, II, and III programs. The Generals turned in another solid set of performances as they continued to build momentum heading into the heart of the outdoor season.
On the women's side, freshman Kimora Brown continued her standout campaign with a time of 12.86 seconds in the 100-meter dash, placing 17th out of more than 40 competitors. She also ran in the 200-meter dash, finishing 36th with a time of 29.11 seconds.
Fellow freshman Haley Cornine also had a full day on the track, competing in both the 200 and 400-meter events. She clocked in at 30.97 seconds in the 200 and ran a 1:10.89 in the 400 to place 23rd overall.
In the same events on the men's side, freshman Tajuan Thomas ran 11.68 seconds in the 100-meter dash, while freshman Justin Parker finished in 12.70 seconds. In the 200-meter dash, Parker recorded a time of 26.15 seconds.
Distance events saw strong showings from Michael Green and Donnell Davis, who both competed in the 800-meter run. Green crossed the line in 2:08.44, while Davis followed closely with a time of 2:12.90.
In the 400-meter dash, Logan Kraszewski finished in 56.93 seconds, holding his own against athletes from across New York State.
The Cortland Classic served as another valuable experience for the Herkimer squad as they continue preparing for the upcoming NJCAA Region III Championships. The Generals will return to action next weekend at the RPI Classic!
