Volleyball Drops Monday Match at Fulton-Montgomery
The Herkimer Generals women's volleyball team faced a tough match on the road, falling 3-0 to Fulton-Montgomery Community College. Despite a competitive effort, Herkimer was unable to secure a set, losing by scores of 17-25, 16-25, and 8-25.
In the first set, Herkimer showed some offensive strength with a hitting percentage of .231, recording 8 kills on 26 total attacks. Deanna Heintz led the offensive charge for the Generals, finishing the match with 6 kills and a solid hitting percentage of .100. She also contributed 2 service aces and 2 digs, totaling 6 points for the team.
Alyssa Ojeda and Amelia Sheldrick added to the effort with 3 and 2 kills, respectively. Ojeda tallied 4 points overall, while Sheldrick contributed 3 points, also adding 6 digs in defense. Unfortunately, Herkimer struggled with consistency, as evidenced by the 13 total attack errors and a team hitting percentage of -.075. Defensively, the Generals put up a good fight, totaling 34 digs as a team. Allison Ball led the defensive effort with 12 digs, while Heintz and Ojeda each added 5. However, the Generals were unable to overcome their errors and Fulton-Montgomery's efficient attacking, as their opponents posted a .280 hitting percentage in the first set and a strong .333 percentage in the third set.
Jadyn Ruff contributed 5 kills and 2 digs for Herkimer and finished with 9 points, the highest on the team.
Though the Generals showed flashes of potential, Fulton-Montgomery's consistency and offensive prowess ultimately secured the victory. Herkimer will look to bounce back in their home POD against Fulton-Montgomery & Jefferson CC this Saturday at noon. Come out and support the Generals!
