The Herkimer Generals earned an emphatic 88–68 victory over rival neighbor Mohawk Valley on Wednesday night, using stifling defense and a dominant performance on the glass to pull away early and never look back.
Herkimer set the tone from the opening tip, applying relentless defensive pressure that limited the Hawks to just 20 points in the first half. The Generals controlled the tempo, forced tough shots, and turned defense into transition opportunities throughout the night.
Kenny Freeman was a dominant force for Herkimer, finishing with a game-high 27 points while pulling down 14 rebounds to anchor the Generals on both ends of the floor. His physical presence inside consistently created second-chance opportunities and kept Mohawk Valley off balance.
Josiah Smith orchestrated the offense, leading the team with seven assists as the Generals shared the ball effectively and built a comfortable second-half cushion.
With the win, Herkimer continues to build momentum as conference play approaches. The Generals return to action on January 17 when they host the Genesee Cougars at Herkimer County Community College.
