Herkimer, NY–Sophomore Ali Somow (Utica, NY) recorded two goals and two assists in leading the Herkimer men's soccer team to a 6-0 win over Jefferson CC in a Region III semi-final match tonight at Wehrum stadium. Sophomore Yamato Fujishima (Saitama City, Japan) scored the first goal of the game in the 14th minute off an assist from Somow. Sophomore Nichlas Kamfjord (Sandnes, Norway) scored the second goal of the game three minutes later off a free kick. Somow scored the next two goals in the 20th and 27th minute. His first goal was assisted by Kamfjord and his second from Fujishima. Sophomore Rory Fisher (Glasgow, Scotland) finished of the scoring in the first half off a corner kick serve from Somow in the 40th minute. Freshman Takami Hattori (Kochi-Ken, Japan) scored the final goal of the game on an assist from freshman Suleiman Abukar (Utica, NY) in the 88th minute.
Freshman Cathal Carney (Springfield, Massachusetts) recorded two saves in the first 45 minutes and Sophomore Jon Bovair (Canastota, NY) had two saves in the second 45 minutes of play.
The Generals advance to the Region III championship game on Sunday where they will take on Onondaga CC. Kick-off is at 12:00pm at Tompkins-Cortland CC.
