Women's Basketball Picks Up Sophomore Day Win Against Fulton-Montgomery
The Herkimer College women's basketball team delivered an emphatic performance on Sophomore Day, securing a dominant 75-50 victory over Fulton-Montgomery Community College. The Generals controlled the game from start to finish, giving their sophomores a memorable sendoff in front of the home crowd.
Fast Start Sets the Tone
Herkimer wasted no time in establishing control, outscoring the Raiders 16-7 in the first quarter. The Generals' defensive pressure stifled Fulton-Montgomery early, forcing turnovers and limiting their offensive rhythm. By halftime, Herkimer extended their lead to 37-25, thanks to a balanced offensive attack and relentless defensive effort.
McNeil and Geisler Lead the Charge
Sophomore forward Imani McNeil (Colonie, NY) was unstoppable in the paint, recording a game-high 19 points on an efficient 7-of-12 shooting while grabbing 12 rebounds to secure a double-double. Sophomore guard Sage Geisler (Queens, NY) added 13 points, including three three-pointers, while also contributing defensively with a steal.
Fellow sophomore Kerisa Van Olst (Salisbury Center, NY) also made an impact, scoring 13 points while hitting three shots from beyond the arc. Freshman Kavashia Archie (Utica, NY) provided key contributions off the bench, adding 13 points, six rebounds, and five steals.
Defensive Dominance
Herkimer's defense was suffocating throughout the contest, forcing 26 turnovers and racking up 14 steals. The Generals held Fulton-Montgomery to just 37.5% shooting from the field and a mere 28.6% from three-point range. They also controlled the glass, outrebounding the Raiders 37-28.
Closing Strong
The Generals continued to build on their lead in the second half, outscoring the visitors 22-15 in the third quarter and 16-10 in the fourth. Their consistency on both ends of the floor ensured there was no late-game comeback attempt from Fulton-Montgomery.
A Special Sophomore Day
With the win, the Generals honored their sophomores in style, celebrating their contributions to the program. Their leadership and effort have been instrumental in the team's success this season.
