Generals Rally Past Genesee in Overtime Thriller

Trailing 7-4 at halftime, the Generals responded with a dominant third quarter, outscoring Genesee 6-2 to take control of the game. Herkimer eventually secured the victory in overtime when Lenox Richard scored the game-winner off an assist from Ryan Hoyt with 1:41 remaining in the extra period.
Ryan Della Rocco sparked the comeback with four goals, including three scores during the decisive third-quarter surge. Richard added three goals and two assists, while Hoyt finished with one goal and four assists in a strong all-around performance. Zachary McMahon chipped in two goals, and Eric Attleson and Leonardo Checo each added a goal.
Checo was dominant at the faceoff X, winning 21 of 25 faceoffs while collecting a game-high 17 ground balls to help Herkimer control possession throughout the afternoon. The Generals also forced 23 Genesee turnovers and held a 56-61 edge in ground balls.
Goalkeeper Teddy Friend made 24 saves to anchor the defense and keep Herkimer within striking distance despite Genesee's fast start.
After falling behind 4-2 after the opening quarter and 7-4 at halftime, Herkimer exploded offensively in the third. Goals from Hoyt, Della Rocco, and Richard helped fuel a 6-0 run before Genesee answered late in the quarter to tie the game heading into the fourth.
Leonardo Checo gave the Generals an 11-9 lead midway through the fourth quarter, but Genesee responded with two late goals to force overtime.
Despite committing 13 penalties in the contest, Herkimer's defense held strong when it mattered most, and the Generals completed the comeback with Richard's overtime winner.
The victory moves Herkimer forward as the Generals continue their push toward postseason play.
