The Herkimer Generals kicked off their home opener with a thrilling 4-2 victory over the Hudson Valley Vikings, thanks to two late goals in the final minutes of play.
The opening 20 minutes saw an offensive surge, with both sides trading goals in quick succession. Herkimer's Vasil Brich struck twice to keep pace with the Vikings, sending the game into a 2-2 deadlock.
From there, the defenses tightened. Neither team could break through for more than an hour of play, as chances came and went.
Finally, in the 87th minute, Rowan Slater buried a penalty kick to give Herkimer the lead. Just two minutes later, Joe Valentin Cabezas added an insurance goal to seal the win and ignite the home crowd.
The Generals will look to carry their momentum on the road when they face Jefferson Cannoneers on September 6th at 3:30 p.m.
